Intuition 101

Two weeks ago I shared with you about what it means to be a psychic. I believe that each person has psychic abilities, it’s just that not all of us are aware of it. We are all familiar with the physical senses of sight, touch, taste, hear, and smell. Most people have all five of these physical senses, although there are instances where someone may not have one or more of them from birth or through something that caused the senses to go away.

Did you know that the physical senses are only a small portion of our abilities to detect, understand, and communicate with what is around us? In addition to the physical senses there are also psychic senses. Intuition is the most well known and is often referred to as the sixth sense. Every person has intuitive abilities. At a young age we all tend to know deep inside of us when a person or situation isn’t quite right. This is often referred to as a “gut feeling” or “inner voice”. It’s something we are all born with.

Sadly, many of us lose our intuitive abilities. We are conditioned to behave or react in ways that are contrary to our deep knowing- our intuition. Sometimes as children, we are made to hug or kiss a relative when we really don’t want to. Or, we can be told that our feelings about things are illogical and don’t make sense. These are just two of the ways we can become conditioned to repress our intuition.

The good news is that we can develop our intuitive abilities. We can relearn our abilities or further develop ones that we are already aware of and use. It just takes a clear understanding of what intuition is, how it works, and then putting that knowledge into practice.

Intuitive, or psychic, abilities, often run in conjunction with our five physical senses. They are referred to as our clair (or clear) abilities. The physical sense of sight has the psychic counterpart of clairvoyance. Clairvoyance means clear seeing.

In addition to the clairs that pair with our physical senses, there are also several other clair abilities:

Clairsentience/Clairempathy-  Clear Feeling (two different types)

Claircognizance- Clear Knowing

While each of us have the ability to have multiple clair abilities, it is likely that you have one that is more dominant than the others. Over the next several weeks I’m going to take you into a deep dive into each of these clair abilities. I will show you what they are, how they manifest, and how you can develop each of them if you so choose. You will be able to recognize which clair ability is your dominant one, which others you may have, and how you can develop or “learn” any of them that you wish to.

In the meantime, if you would like to get started developing your intuition, you can try these approaches. After all, the clair senses are only a portion of what intuition is.

  1. Keep a Journal- Each day find the time to write something down. It doesn’t matter what it is. Your thoughts, feelings, whatever. It doesn’t matter. Just write it down. You’ll be surprised what your intuition could be trying to tell you.
  2. Spend Time in Silence- Find a place where you can be alone and silent. Don’t have your phone or electronics with you. Just sit with your feelings. Notice what thoughts come to your mind. Don’t judge them. Just notice them.
  3. Turn Off Your Inner Critic- The next time you find yourself rationalizing or saying something is “stupid” or “doesn’t make sense”, stop! Become aware of what you are saying and instead of pushing the thought aside go with it. Ask yourself why you think or feel that way.
